Ifugao prov’l government improves public park and plaza

LAGAWE, Ifugao (PIA) — Residents and visitors alike can relax, engage in recreational and social activities, and enjoy nature better with the renovated and newly constructed public park and plaza  at Poblacion South, in the capital town of Lagawe.

Ifugao Provincial Engineer Ericson Mammag said this initiative is spearheaded by Governor Jerry U. Dalipog, who recognized the need for a public space where people can gather, bond, relax, and unwind, especially after the prolonged community restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The design of the plaza is inspired by the Ifugao native houses, highlighting the province’s rich cultural heritage. This aims to preserve traditions while attracting tourists and providing them with a memorable experience while visiting the province.

Dalipog explained that these native houses serve as both shade and display centers for the 11 municipalities of the province, showcasing their local products, particularly their One Town, One Product offerings.

He shared future plans for the plaza that include the addition of chairs and tables under the native houses, which will feature board games.

Meanwhile, Mammag said the public park will include the construction of a children’s area equipped with slides, swings, seesaws, monkey bars, a merry-go-round, and other recreational facilities.

Mammag reminded the public to help maintain the cleanliness of the plaza by practicing proper waste management, segregating garbage, and ensuring the proper disposal of moma (betel nut).

The ongoing improvement of the basketball and tennis courts are also part of the project.

The Lagawe plaza and park improvement project has an initial funding of ₱15 million under the FY 2023 Local Government Support Fund – Financial Assistance to Local Government Units  which provides direct financial support to LGUs for the implementation of priority programs and projects aimed at enhancing the delivery of basic services.
