LAGAWE, Ifugao (PIA) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) recenl conducted seminar on fair trade laws for service and repair enterprises to 19 repair shop owners/representatives in the province.
The activity aimed to orient the concerned individuals on the requirements of the law on Service and Repair Enterprise accreditation.
“It’s a safeguard measure in protecting the interest of the public against unethical, unhealthy, and incompetent practice of service repair enterprises, thereby ensuring that only reliable, ethical, and competent service and repair enterprises operate in the market,” the DTI-Ifugao stated.
DTI-Ifugao personnel discussed the topics on the legal basis of repair shops accreditation, categories and coverage, star rating classification, exemptions, schedule of fees, insurance coverage, and checklist of requirements.
Ministry Order No. 32, Series of 1985 defined accreditation is a legal recognition by competent authority that a service repair enterprise as well as its technical personnel employed therein have complied with the requirements of Presidential Decree 1572.
All enterprises and technical personnel employed therein engaged in the service and repair of motor vehicles, heavy equipment, engines and engineering works; electronics, electrical, air-conditioning and refrigeration; office equipment; medical and dental equipment; and other consumer industrial electro-mechanical, chemical and gaseous equipment, machinery appliances or devices, shall apply for accreditation to the DTI to be renewed on or before the 31st day of January of every year.
No such service or repair enterprises, which mean any business establishment engaged directly or indirectly in the repair, service or maintenance of any consumer product, technical personnel shall be licensed or permitted to operate in the Philippines for the first time without first being accredited by the Department of Trade.”
The mandatory Philippine Standards Quality and or Safety Certification Mark and Import Commodity Clearance Certification sticker required on such locally manufactured products and imported products was also discussed for the guidance of the attendees.
Products available for sale at repair shops are the usual automotive related products such as inner tubes for tires, tires for automotive vehicles, lead-acid storage batteries, safety glass for automotive, and motor vehicle brake fluid among other. (JDP/MBL-PIA Abra)
