Ifugao yaggies win in National YFC Competition

LAGAWE, Ifugao (PIA)–The Agri-Business Model Canvass (BMC) of Ifugao team won in the National Young Farmers Challenge (YFC) Outstanding Youth Agribusiness Models 2022 bagging P300,000 cash prize as additional capital for their enterprise.

The Am-Iyoung’s Yuyu Farm of Lovely Joy Paddapad, John Mark Daping, and Josephine Guimangal from Ifugao was among the top 12 Outstanding Youth Agri-Business Models nationwide during the 2nd National Young Farmers Summit last December at Laoag City in Ilocos Norte.

Guimangal explained that their BMC means young farmers of yuyu (Japanese fish) from Am-iyong, a sitio in Hungduan, Ifugao.

“Am-iyoung’s Yuyu Farm is a business enterprise that serves as a venue for us to enhance our entrepreneurial skills through the creation of community income-generating activities as well as to preserve the endangered yuyu and to promote our rich cultural heritage,” said Guimangal.

She said they will use their cash prize to expand their farm which includes acquiring equipment, raw materials, machineries, and technologies for their breeding site and improving their packaging.

The group received a total of P500, 000 from the competition organized by the Department of Agriculture under its Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division.  The young agri-preneurs (Yaggies) were granted P50, 000 and P150, 000 when they succeeded at the provincial and regional levels, respectively.

The YFC is a competitive financial grant assistance program for youth who want to engage in agri-fishery enterprises. It aims to encourage and support the Yaggies to stay or return to agriculture and engage them in food production, processing agricultural products, and other farm-based enterprises.
