Iligan shines bright in 2nd Hugyaw sa Ilaw 2024 celebration

ILIGAN CITY (PIA) — The city here kicked off the celebration of Christmas with the Hugyaw Ilaw sa Iligan 2024, a vibrant competition that showcased the talents and creativity of the people from different barangays.

Vice Mayor Marianito Alemania thanked the participants for their dedication despite the rain before the start of the event.

Meanwhile, City Administrator Darwin Manubag described the event as a showcase of youth talent and Iligan’s growing creative industry. He also congratulated the five contingents, acknowledging the efforts of the dancers, choreographers, and financial supporters.

 “On behalf sa atoang mayor, ang iyang kinasing-kasing nga pasalamat kaninyo aron paghimo nga mas mabulukon ang atog pagselebrar sa kapaskuhan,” he said.

Barangay Sta. Elena emerged as the champion of the competition and received a P100,000 cash prize. Barangay Tomas Cabili secured the 1st runner-up spot with P75,000, while Barangay Luinab took the 2nd runner-up spot and won a P50,000 cash prize.  Special awards included Most Lively Team and Social Media’s Choice for Barangay Luinab and Best Lighted Costume for Barangay Sta. Elena.

Barangay Del Carmen and Christian Horizon School Inc. received P10,000 each as consolation prizes.

Neftale Jean O. Maglinte from Barangay Del Carmen shared that she joined in the contest to showcase her talent to a larger audience.

 “Gusto nako ipakita ang akong talent sa daghang tao. Excited mi musayaw. Happy ko kay grabe among practice ani (I want to show my talent to many people. We are excited to dance. I’m happy because we practiced a lot for this),” she said.

Meanwhile, Rhean Mae Tariman from Christian Horizon School expressed that dancing at the competition was a dream come true, as representing her school filled her with pride and happiness.

 Hugyaw Ilaw sa Iligan 2024 is just one of the many activities that are lined up for the month-long celebration of the Paskuhan Festival in the city. Other events include the Christmas Village Contest, Overpass Lighting, Barangay Christmas Belen Contest, Paskuhan Painting Exhibit, Grand Chorale Competition, and Kasadya sa Iligan Christmas Street Party, among others.
