SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – A Research Publication Training dubbed “From Revision to Submission” was organized by the Region 1 Health Research and Development Consortium – Research Utilization Committee (R1HRDC-RUC) in Baguio City on Sept. 26 to 27, equipping Ilocos Region health researchers with essential skills to enhance research publication and improve health standards.
The two-day activity mirrored the standards of academic journals by equipping researchers with the techniques and knowledge needed to convert their research into manuscripts that are publishable and understandable to the general public.
Health research is essential, providing the foundation for evidence-based decision-making and policy development, which relies on the dissemination of timely research findings that adhere to ethical standards.
Additionally, publishable research enables the general public to appreciate the outcomes of health research, fostering a deeper understanding of health-related issues.
Ethics-oriented researches
Researchers received training on promoting ethical research practices, equipping them with responsible methods that adhere to stringent ethical standards set by the R1HRDC’s Ethics Review Body.
The training also facilitated opportunities for collaboration among participants, fostering a community of health researchers dedicated to promoting advancements in health research within the Ilocos Region.
Furthermore, facilitators offered mentorship, providing researchers with expert guidance and feedback throughout the complex publication process, ensuring the successful dissemination of their research findings.
Elevating Health Initiatives in the Ilocos Region
Dr. Leo Solis, vice chairman of the R1HRDC, emphasized the vital role of research in driving scientific progress and improving health initiatives on a global scale.
“Research is crucial for advancing science, and publishing findings fosters professional growth and development. It’s imperative to enhance health initiatives both nationally and globally,” Solis said.
Dr. Artemio Licos Jr., Dentist V at the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC) and a participant in the training, highlighted its significance in navigating the complexities of his profession, noting how it offers valuable insights that enhance his efficiency in conducting research duties.
“Our previous research efforts have directly influenced hospital policy. I attended this training to gain skills in publishing our research papers, and I see this as a tremendous opportunity,” Licos Jr. stated.
Michelle Ducusin, another participant from the Philippine Science High School in Ilocos Sur, meanwhile emphasized the importance of the program for her school’s academic initiatives.
“This training is very relevant because our school offers three research programs for our Grades 10, 11, and 12 focused on research for sustainable development. We want to contribute to the body of knowledge and come up with research that involves technology transfer,” Ducusin said.
The activity forms part of the overarching goal of the R1HRDC to promote health research by supporting high-quality and responsible publications in the Ilocos Region. (AMB/CCMT, PIA La Union)
