LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte (PIA) – The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) is mobilizing all available resources in preparation for the potential impact of Tropical Storm Enteng (international name: Yagi).
During the pre-disaster risk assessment meeting on Sept. 2, the local government units have activated their activated operation centers, conducted ocular inspection on the evacuation centers, and prepositioned equipment, including food and non-food items in their areas.
The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) has prepositioned 700 food packs at the Pagudpud People’s Center, 400 food packs at the Pancian District Hospital warehouse, 200 food packs at the Pasuquin warehouse, 400 for the towns of Badoc, Pinili, and Currimao, and 600 food packs for Laoag City.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) First Engineering District Office also reported that heavy equipment is deployed at the landslide-prone area of Sitio Banquero, Barangay Pancian in Pagudpud.
The agency also ensured its readiness for any landslide that may occur, as they will immediately conduct clearing operations for the safety and convenience of motorists.
Meanwhile, the Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC) has also activated its Operation Bagyo protocol, wherein equipment and personnel are mobilized to make sure electricity-related concerns are addressed.
On Monday night, Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc ordered the suspension of classes at all levels for public and private schools, as well as government work, as the province remains under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2.
According to the weather bureau, gale warning is in effect over the seaboards of Northern Luzon.
Sea travel is risky for small seacrafts, including all types of motor bancas.
With this, fishers in the Ilocos Norte are told not to risk their lives by going out into the sea during a typhoon.
