Ilocos Norte LGUs roll out relief ops for typhoon-hit residents

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte (PIA) —  Local government units (LGUs) in this northern Luzon province promptly dispatched critical relief aid to typhoon-hit residents.

The provincial government mobilized the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) for the distribution of relief packs and food trays to various evacuation centers in Laoag City, Batac City, San Nicolas, and Paoay Town on Sept. 30.

On Oct. 1 (Tuesday), the PSWDO team distributed relief packs to the towns of Bangui, Burgos, Vintar, and Bacarra.

Additionally, the office of Ilocos Norte First District Representative Sandro Marcos has distributed an additional 50,000 packs of instant noodles and 20,000 canned goods to affected communities.

Meanwhile, the city government of Laoag, through its City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), distributed food packs and hygiene kits to the displaced residents housed in evacuation centers.

Laoag CSWDO head Perlita Cabello said they have also served more than 3,000 evacuees and affected residents who opted to stay in their homes.

“We have 1,500 relief packs available. We have an additional pending request for delivery of 10,000 family food packs, which will be from the city government fund,” Cabello said.

In addition, the local government of Pagudpud is also expected to distribute a total of 1,000 relief packs after preparing the goods.

The DSWD Field Office 1 (FO 1) has turned over a total of 1,000 family food packs to the LGUs of Dingras for residents affected by the flood caused by Typhoon Julian.

Before Julian’s onslaught, the agency prepositioned family food packs in various satellite warehouses across the province in anticipation of the typhoon.

As of Oct. 2, a total of 22,381 family food packs and 6,110 packs of non-food items were ready for immediate distribution. (MJTAB/EJFG, PIA Ilocos Norte)
