LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte (PIA) — The Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office (INPPO) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the province through enhanced patrolling, security measures, and active community engagement.
INPPO Provincial Director, PCOL Frederick Obar said that crime data from Jan. 2024 to mid-December 2024 shows a total of 726 recorded incidents, with a 95 percent clearance rate (692 cases) and 382 percent resolution rate (594 cases solved) — reflecting the office’s effective law enforcement.
A cleared case means the investigation is finished, but it does not always lead to a conviction or final legal outcome. A solved case, however, has a definite resolution, usually with enough evidence for a conviction or a clear legal conclusion.
To ensure public safety, 52 operational PROTECT (Police Resource for Organized and Trained Engagement for Community Trust) boxes are strategically placed across the province.
The PROTECT boxes have assigned police personnel 24/7 to assist pedestrians, tourists, and the general public in case of emergencies for faster response.
Community programs have also played a vital role in sustaining peace. Initiatives such as the IN-TANOD Olympics trained barangay tanods in peacekeeping and conflict resolution, while the Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo (KKDAT) mobilized over 7,400 youth volunteers in anti-drug and anti-terrorism campaigns.
Further strengthening community ties, the “Manong PD’s Outreach Program” benefited over 500 families, including indigenous peoples and former combatants, by providing essential aid and support.
In the fight against illegal firearms, 20 operations conducted this year resulted in the arrest of 22 individuals, confiscation of 20 loose firearms, and recovery of 298 surrendered firearms. Additionally, 75 expired firearms licenses were addressed under “Oplan Katok” to ensure proper regulation and safekeeping.
“INPPO shall persevere its mandated tasks of maintaining peace and order in the province. We stand committed to the provincial government’s vision of making Ilocos Norte a safer and stronger home community,” Obar said.
Obar assured that the INPPO will continue these initiatives to maintain peace and order, reinforcing their commitment to public safety and the well-being of the community.
With a focus on sustained collaboration between law enforcement and local communities, the INPPO remains steadfast in its mission to uphold safety and public trust across Ilocos Norte. (CCMT/EJFG/MTDA, PIA Ilocos Norte)
