Ilocos Norte public schools experience smooth Balik Eskwela — DepEd

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte (PIA) — Public school students and teachers in Ilocos Norte officially returned to school on July 29 for school year 2024-2025.

According to Valerie Talamayan, designated information officer of the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Ilocos Norte, the opening of classes yesterday went “relatively smooth.”

She added that all of the 364 public elementary and high Schools opened for the school year on Monday.

“As of 10:00 a.m. on July 30, a total of 80,983 learners are enrolled in the schools of the schools division of Ilocos Norte for the school year,” she added.

Meanwhile, about 19,742 students are enrolled based on the latest data from the City Schools Division of Laoag City.

“The opening of schools is doing good so far. About 39 out of the 40 public schools opened yesterday. The newly established Rodolfo Farinas National Science High School will open on August 5,” Jennifer Alejandro, information officer of the city schools division said.

For Ilocos Norte College of Arts and Trades (INCAT) student leader, El Dave Orlando, even with the recent onslaught of Super Typhoon Carina that hit the province last week, the opening of classes went seamlessly.

“Even if we experienced Typhoon Carina, the preparation for the opening of classes is still going well and we did our best in the Brigada Eskwela in preparation for going back to school. Because we experienced a typhoon, we prepared the necessary things for the opening of the 2024-2025 school year and the weather cooperated yesterday because it didn’t rain all day,” he said

The student leader added that he looks forward to creating more projects to help his fellow students.

“We are looking forward for a great and more progressive institution because we already have a project ready not only for the school but also for the students that will help them in their studies that we have prepared that has been laid out for this year and it can be realized if we work together for a better and more progressive future of our school,” Orlando added.

Meanwhile, Giovanni Galendez, a senior high school teacher in Piddig National High School, says his first day back at teaching was productive.

“Our first day of class went smoothly and was organized. The weather was also bright which is good for the productivity of teachers and students,” he said.

Renelle Aquino, a San Mateo Integrated School teacher in Laoag City, also had a smooth first day back to school.

“Our first day went well. But we still need to undergo psychosocial assessment and activities to the learners so that they won’t get culture shock and to be conditioned for the school year,” he added. (MJTAB/EJFG, PIA Ilocos Norte)
