Ilocos police record impressive results in September anti-crime campaign

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – The Police Regional Office 1 (PRO 1) has achieved notable successes in its ongoing campaign against illegal activities in the Ilocos Region for September 2024.

In a statement, PRO 1 detailed a series of successful operations targeting illegal drugs, wanted individuals, and criminal gangs.

Through coordinated efforts, PRO 1 officers have apprehended numerous wanted individuals and seized significant quantities of illegal substances and firearms.

In the fight against illegal drugs, PRO 1 conducted 82 operations, resulting in the arrest of 91 suspects and the confiscation of over 110,350 marijuana plants, 55,600 seedlings, 305 grams of dried marijuana leaves, and 1,147.54 grams of shabu, with a total estimated street value of P32,133,958.40.

Additionally, PRO 1 apprehended 39 of the region’s most wanted individuals without rewards and an additional 289 wanted persons.

The office also conducted 47 operations against illegal gambling, leading to the arrest of 163 suspects and the seizure of P49,963 in bet money and equipment.

In a focused effort against criminal gangs, five suspects were arrested, and under the Letter of Instructions (LOI) Kontra Boga initiative, 18 operations resulted in the confiscation of 19 firearms, with 28 individuals apprehended and 20 separate cases filed in court.

LOI Kontra Boga aims to reduce the proliferation of unregistered guns in civilian hands and among criminal groups.

In the campaign against the Communist Party of the Philippines/New People’s Army/National Democratic Front (CPP/NPA/NDF), PRO 1 facilitated the surrender of nine communist terrorist group (CTG) members and 24 communist front organization (CFO) members, who collectively surrendered three firearms.

Police Brigadier General Lou Evangelista, PRO 1 Regional Director, emphasized the office’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the region.

He emphasized that PRO 1 will continue its relentless efforts to uphold the law and protect the community.

“These accomplishments demonstrate our unwavering efforts to combat crime and maintain peace in the Ilocos Region,” he stated.
