Ilocos Region strengthens gender agenda planning with training

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA)—The Ilocos Region’s Gender and Development (GAD) planning team honed their skills in identifying gender issues and crafting a strategic regional plan at a training and workshop on gender analysis held on June 25 at the Department of Agriculture (DA)-Regional Field Office 1 conference area here.

The Regional GAD Committee organized the event, which brought together GAD planning members from various government agencies, universities, and local governments across the region.

The training aimed to prepare participants for an upcoming strategic planning session on July 17–19 to develop the Region 1 GAD Agenda for the next six years.

This agenda will serve as a roadmap for regional programs and initiatives promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Lawyer Harold Khub-Aron, regional director of the Commission on Human Rights and RGADC chairperson, emphasized the importance of the workshop in achieving gender equality.

“This workshop marks a crucial opportunity for us to delve deeper into gender analysis—a vital tool in our collective efforts to address inequality and promote social justice,” Khub-Aron said.

“Through this training, we aim to enhance our capacity to identify, understand, and address gender-specific challenges in our policies, programs, and services,” Khub-Aron added.

Mariz Dafnae Mendoza, a member of the Region 1 Gender Resource Pool, led the session on gender analysis.

Participants then applied the learned concepts through practical exercises.

The RGADC serves as the GAD coordinating arm of the Regional Development Council.

It plays a key role in recommending policies and actions that promote gender mainstreaming and women’s empowerment throughout the Ilocos Region.

This training equips the GAD planning team with the skills and knowledge needed to develop a comprehensive plan for achieving gender equality in the Ilocos Region. (AMB/REB/PIA Region 1)
