Iloilo City, PSA sign agreement to update data inventory

ILOILO CITY (PIA) – The Iloilo City Government and the Philippine Statistics Authority have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to update data inventory through the conduct of Census of Population and Community-Based Monitoring System (POPCEN-CBMS).

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, Data Assessment and System Management Office Acting Department Head lawyer Fydah Marie B. Sabando, PSA Regional Statistical Services Office 6 Officer-in-Charge Chief Statistical Specialist Nelida C. Amolar and PSA Iloilo Provincial Statistical Office OIC Supervising Statistical Specialist  Ma. Goretti M. Novilla led the signing on June 24.

The CBMS activities in the city that would start on July 15, will include generating updated and detailed data crucial for targeting beneficiaries, conducting thorough poverty analysis, prioritizing needs, and formulating relevant policies while ensuring the practice of appropriate security measures for data protection of residents.

Through the MOA, the city government would support PSA in the data collection, ensure adherence to protocols, and provide necessary resources, noting that all 180 barangays will undergo household data collection and geotagging to ensure updated and accurate data to target beneficiaries for social protection programs.

The initiative aims to update the population registry, streamline CBMS operations, refresh the mid-decade population count, and improve social registries. These efforts are intended to facilitate evidence-based planning and effective program implementation.

The project is likewise expected to leverage economic and social tools to support poverty alleviation and community development programs that are targeted, and responsive to the specific needs of each sector. (AAL/JNH/PIA Iloilo)
