ILOILO CITY (PIA) – The Iloilo City local chief executive has encouraged the public to take proactive measures to safeguard their health and well-being amid the rising temperature in the city.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, in a statement, said the city’s response teams are on high alert, ensuring mobility assets and medical supplies are readily available to address possible emergencies.
The city government also encouraged residents to adhere to recommended safety measures, which include staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and wearing appropriate clothing to mitigate the risks of heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) Region VI, in coordination with DOST-PAGASA and the Department of Health, issued advisories emphasizing the need for preparedness in response to the anticipated extreme heat.
A DOST-PAGASA Heat Index Forecast on March 5 indicated the maximum heat index in Iloilo City is forecast at 41°C.
With this, Treñas said the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and operations center are continuously monitoring the situation and will provide regular updates to ensure public safety.
“Let us all remain vigilant and take care of each other to safeguard the health and well-being of Ilonggos during this period of extreme heat. For any concerns or emergencies, please reach out to your operations center or health center. Let’s stay safe, hydrated and resilient,” he added. (AAL/JNH/PIA Iloilo)
