ILOILO CITY (PIA) – The newly inaugurated four police stations here are set to strengthen the safety and security measures being implemented by the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) for the public.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil personally led the activation of the new stations on July 2, noting that these facilities would expand ICPO’s capacity for efficient law enforcement response.
Marbil, during the program, also vowed continuous support for Iloilo City and the region, and acknowledged the dedication of all its personnel in implementing all the programs that ensure the peace and order situation in the community.
Iloilo City now has 10 police stations after the activation of the four. These new stations will be located at Tanza ICARE in City Proper District (Police Station 7); Bo. Obrero Barangay Hall in Lapuz district (Police Station 8); Uswag Youth Center in Jaro district (Police Station 9); and ICARE Center in Gaisano ICC in Mandurriao district (Police Station 10).
The ICPO noted that the Police Station 7 (PS7) would serve 24 barangays with 26,835 population; the PS8 would cater to 12 barangays with 30,384 residents; while the PS9 would cover 29 barangays with 60,519 population, and the PS 10 would serve seven with 25,917 population.
ICPO chief Colonel Joeresty P. Coronica previously said that they had pushed for the addition of more stations to improve efficiency and due to the increase of the city’s population, which nearly stands at 500,000.
Meanwhile, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, highlighted the impact of the event, noting that having additional police stations would give police personnel less area to manage, reducing time to response for emergency and security situations.
“We have procured the office desks, chairs, computers, and the rest. Three police cars have already been procured since the PNP will provide one. We will also buy them long firearms. I am very happy as this is a dream come true for us,” Treñas also said as the city government initially sought for additional stations way back in 2019 but was halted due to COVID-19 pandemic.
