Iloilo Provincial Hospital elevates to Red Orchid Hall of Fame

ILOILO CITY — The Department of Health (DOH) recently installed Iloilo Provincial Hospital (IPH) into the Red Orchid Hall of Fame status following its recent exceptional performance during the Tobacco Control Leadership (TCL) validation process.

This evaluation assesses the hospital’s policies, programs, and initiatives aimed at reducing tobacco use and its harmful effects.

“Excelling in this process indicates that IPH not only meets but exceeds the standards set by the DOH for tobacco control, showcasing its proactive stance in combating tobacco-related health risks,” according to the Facebook post of IPH.

Further, IPH noted that its success in the TCL validation has solidified its reputation as a leader in public health, demonstrating its commitment to protecting the community from the dangers of tobacco use.

A brainchild of DOH, the Red Orchid Award recognizes government hospitals, offices, and local government units (LGUs) in their comprehensive effort to implement the 100% smoke-free environment based on the MPOWER strategy and guidelines set by the World Health Organization (WHO) Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC).

The MPOWER measures include monitoring tobacco use and preventive policies, protecting people from the effects of smoking, offering help to quit tobacco use, warning about the dangers of tobacco, enforcing bans on tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship, and raising taxes on tobacco.
