Iloilo underscores community engagement in dengue fight

ILOILO CITY (PIA) — The Iloilo provincial government enjoined the public to participate in a dengue cleanup drive dubbed as “Limpyo Iloilo, Kada Lunes nga Lihok Kontra Lamok”.

Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. issued Executive Order No. 29 Series of 2025 implementing the said clean up drive to strengthen the search and destroy mosquito breeding sites strategy in the province of Iloilo amid the dengue outbreak.

According to the EO, there is an urgent need to strengthen and institutionalize the implementation of the Department of Health’s (DOH) 4S Strategy in combating dengue, particularly, the Search and Destroy component which aims to prevent dengue by eliminating mosquito breeding sites.

The dengue cleanup drive is observed regularly every Monday at 4PM.

For its part, local government units may utilize sirens from government vehicles or church bells to signal the start of the activity.

Defensor likewise ordered the integration of the clean-up drive and other dengue prevention activities into key provincial programs and celebration to harness community engagement and ensure a coordinated and sustained effective dengue prevention and control effort.

 Based on the data of the Provincial ESU covering the period January 1, 2025 until March 1, 2025, Iloilo has logged 803 dengue cases, including six fatalities, reflecting a 77 percent surge compared to the same period in 2024. (AAL/LMLE/PIA Iloilo)
