Improved roads to boost travel, economies in north central Iloilo

ILOILO CITY (PIA)—The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office has completed six road improvement projects enhancing safety, traffic efficiency, and local economies in north central Iloilo.

“These road improvements demonstrate our commitment to providing safer, more efficient travel for motorists and fostering economic growth in our communities,” said DPWH-Western Visayas Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel as he highlighted the transformative potential of these projects and how they will open new opportunities for residents.

The P22.5-million project along the Barotac Nuevo-Dumangas-Dacutan Wharf Road involved the widening of a 1.8-kilometer stretch, expanding each lane to 3.65 meters. The project also includes the installation of solar-powered LED lighting and reflectorized pavement markings to improve visibility and reduce accidents, ensuring safer travel at night.

The Banga Bante-Banga Polot-an-Barotac Nuevo Road widening project, amounting to P9.2 million, involved a 0.86-lane-kilometer stretch. The roadway was expanded to 3.35 meters wide and 0.30 meters thick, with additional safety features such as reflectorized thermoplastic, rumble strips, and pavement markings to ensure smoother and safer driving experiences. 

Meanwhile, several rural road upgrades in Dingles town, amounting to P14.7 million, focused on improving accessibility and convenience for residents. These projects included the construction of 5-meter-wide roads in Barangays Sinandigan-Bugtong, Ilajas-Agtatacay, and Nani Moroboro, complete with cross drainage and flared headwalls.

The P17.6-million concreting and slope protection project in Jalaur Proper Lateral G Service Road in the town of Pototan was also completed, delivering 1,096 lineal meters concrete road with 5 meters wide and 0.238 meters thick of slope protection.
