Incentive awaits business owners who avail of digital payment system

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — Business owners may start registering in their preferred Financial Service Provider (FSP) as the city implements Ordinance No. 71 series of 2022, an ordinance enjoining all business establishments and local public transportation in the City of Baguio to adopt QR Ph digital payments in line with the Paleng QR Program.

City Treasurer Alex Cabarrubias said that while the implementing rules and regulations of the ordinance is underway, business owners can start registering for the digital payment system to avail of the incentive  offered.

“Puwede na silang mag-register doon sa FSP (Financial Service Provider). Your choice po kung anong gusto ninyo na financial provider basta digital payment, considered po ‘yun sa incentive,” Cabarrubias said.

The ordinance states that all business owners who will provide QR PH as an alternative mode of payment shall be granted a 2.5 percent discount which shall be applied on their business taxes on the first year of adoption.

“Yung mga establishments na gumagamit, submit proof na you have this digital payment para po mabigyan kayo ng 2.5% (discount) of your business tax, ‘Pag vinerify po ng office of the licensing together with the office (of the city treasury), mabigbigyan po kayo ng 2.5% discount,” City Permits and Licensing Officer Allan Abayao said.

The ordinance covers all public market vendors, all stores and business establishments, including, but not limited to sari-sari stores, ambulant vendors and hawkers and all public transport groups. Further, all public market vendors, public transport groups, sari-sari store owners, other local merchants in the city have been directed to make QR PH payments available to their customers in line with the Paleng QR PH program.

The Paleng-QR Ph is a program developed by the Department of the Interior and Local Government and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas which aims to expand digital payments – paying thru digital device such as mobile phone – in the markets and transport sector thru the QR Ph. (JDP/DEG-PIA CAR)
