BUTUAN CITY (PIA) — Over 5,000 jobs awaited jobseekers during the Labor Day Job Fair organized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Caraga on May 1 at the Robinsons Place, South Atrium, Butuan City.
According to Atty. Jason P. Balais, regional director of DOLE Caraga, they have noted a rising number of job vacancies during the conduct of their annual Labor Day job fairs. He recalled that back in 2004 there were only 3,000 job vacancies offered to Caraganons, a statistic which has almost doubled this year.
“Tumataas ang number of vacancies that we have solicited year after year. We have over 5,000 jobs now. That is an attestation that the confidence of the business sector is back kasi gumaganda ang ekonomiya ng Pilipinas at nagiging favorable ang business climate para sa kanila,” said Balais.
(There has been an increase in the number of vacancies that we have solicited year after year. We have over 5,000 jobs now. That is an attestation that the confidence of the business sector is back because as the Philippine economy is getting better, the business climate is becoming more favorable for them as well).
56 local and overseas employers took part in the said job fair bringing employment opportunities from different industries such as education, construction, hospitality, retail, marketing, mining, and transportation.
Balais further elaborated how the booming economy of Caraga and the Philippines as a whole is advantageous to DOLE’s advocacy of gradually diminishing the unemployment rate of the country.
“Investments generate jobs. With more investments coming in, we can also expect an increment in the number of job vacancies that we can offer to the public,” Balais added.
Caraga region has been recognized to be the second fastest-growing economy in 2024 among the 18 regions across the Philippines with a 6.9 percent growth rate, a 2.1 percent leap from that of 2023 according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). The region’s economic performance plays a vital role in driving business investments and influencing company decisions on expansion, manpower recruitment, and resource allocation. (NJGD, PIA Caraga)
