Info officers urged to boost data dissemination on local programs, interventions

ILOILO CITY (PIA) – Members of the Iloilo-Guimaras Information Officers Association (IGIOA) have been encouraged to boost its data dissemination efforts on the programs of their local government units, including its interventions on different community challenges, like disasters.

The call was echoed by Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-6 head EnP. Cheryl B. Amor during the meeting of the IGIOA members on Nov. 20, 2024 at PIA-6 office, citing that information officers should highlight the initiatives and programs of the LGUs for the public to know that government resources are being put into good use.

Amor stressed that as the mouthpiece of their respective LGU, it is important to amplify these programs and actions as these will uplift the image of their community and reflect the kind of leadership that their leaders have.

She added that by disseminating accurate, timely, and relevant information, including pictures and videos of the events, the information officers would also help PIA on its functions as the communication arm of the government, which include informing the public of all the government initiatives in the grassroot level through news articles, radio programs, and television shows.

She likewise thanked the information officers for their help to PIA-6 in information dissemination and urged them to continue to support the agency’s programs.

Meanwhile, to equip the information officers with additional knowledge on programs of other national government agencies, Janene Denila, Science Research Specialist II of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Iloilo oriented the officers on the different programs and services offered by the DOST.

Among the programs discussed by Denila include the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program, Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP), Manufacturing Productivity Extension (MPEX) program, and scholarship program.
