CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — The Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF), more known as Pag-IBIG Fund, is intensifying efforts to bring its services to workers in the informal sector.
Pag-IBIG Fund noted there are still many workers in the informal sector who have not yet signed up as members of Pag-IBIG Fund.
Pag-IBIG defines informal sector workers as online sellers, public utility vehicle drivers, motorcycle riders, self-employed or individuals who are not employed under a company.
“Many workers are not yet Pag-IBIG members and therefore, do not enjoy Pag-IBIG benefits,” said Pag-IBIG Fund chief executive officer Marilene C. Acosta during the Pag-IBIG Fund Stakeholders’ Accomplishment Report (StAR) Visayas.
Acosta urged the informal sector workers to avail of Pag-IBIG Fund’s financial membership programs to ensure better financial security.
“Tulungan ‘nyo kaming maging members ang mga farmers, fisherfolks, tricycle drivers, online sellers, at ‘yung may maliliit na negosyo dahil sila ang mas nangangailangan ng magandang financial standing lalo na kapag nag-retire na sila,” Acosta appealed to members and stakeholders.
(Help us make farmers, fisher folks, tricycle drivers, online sellers, and those with small businesses members because they are the ones who need the most of good financial standing, especially when they retire.)
This push comes from recognizing the challenges faced by informal sector workers who lack retirement security.
“For the informal income earners, if they were not able to put up a source of passive income, when they retired, even when they reached 60 or 70, they still have to work,” Acosta said.
Pag-IBIG Fund’s services include housing loans, savings plans, loans, and other financial services designed to help financial security for all Filipinos.
