Informed and satisfied taxpayers key to tax compliance, says BIR director

SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna (PIA) – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) underscored the impact of its strengthened taxpayer education campaign, which has led to improved tax compliance and increased revenue collection.

In an interview during the Philippine Information Agency Calabarzon’s Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas, Atty. Dante E. Tan, Officer-in-Charge Regional Director of BIR LaQueMar, said that providing taxpayers with clear information on tax policies not only reduces confusion but also encourages voluntary compliance.

“When our beloved taxpayers are well-informed and satisfied with the services provided by the BIR, they will be encouraged to pay the correct tax,” Tan said.

He explained that their office has intensified taxpayer education efforts, which include comprehensive guidelines on tax filing, deadlines, and information on how government agencies use tax revenues for public services, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and more.

Tan added that continued efforts toward upholding transparency, accountability, and the protection of taxpayer rights help strengthen trust between the public and the government, ultimately resulting in higher revenue for national development programs.

As of September 2024, the BIR Revenue Region 9B LaQueMar office has collected ₱32.777 billion, reaching 96 percent of its collection target for the year.

With three months remaining in the fiscal year, the office is on track to exceed its annual collection target, further solidifying its mandate to generate revenue for the government.

“We promised to improve how we reach more taxpayers and how we can serve them better,” Tan stated.

The BIR LaQueMar office has aso streamlined its services and transactions, including the digitalization of tax filing, quicker processing times, and more accessible payment methods to make the entire process more convenient, promoting ease of doing business and efficiency.

“All processes and transactions in the BIR have been shortened and aligned with international ISO standards. We follow the set procedures and timelines. We also offer ease of paying taxes through our ‘File and Pay Anywhere’ system, allowing taxpayers to pay from anywhere,” the director added.

Tan called on the public to pay their tax obligations promptly to contribute to the country’s progress and support the vision of a Bagong Pilipinas. (AM/PIA-4A)
