Isabela City launches ‘Go Go’ caravan

ISABELA CITY, Basilan (PIA) – The local government of Isabela City has recently launched its Good Governance (Go-GO) caravan which aims to disseminate information and empower citizens to uphold good governance.

The event drew over 2,000 participants from 45 barangays in the city, as well as representatives from various sectors and government agencies.

In her message, Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman emphasized the importance of transparency and information in leadership for effective governance. She expressed her desire to establish Isabela City as a model for good governance, where every citizen is informed and engaged.

“Ating hangarin at dalangin na sa pamamagitan ng Go Go Isabela caravan, masimulan natin ang pagpundar ng isang lungsod ng Isabela na kung saan ang bawat Isabeleño ay may alam at may pakialam,” she said.

[We hope and pray that through the Go-Go Isabela caravan, we can start building a city where every Isabeleño knows and participates.]

The event was also attended by Mayor Benjamin Magalong of Baguio City, who is one of the convenors of Mayors for Good Governance in the country. He stressed the importance of citizen involvement in good governance, citing the city’s efforts as an example.

Congressman Mujiv Hataman shared his insights and experiences on upholding good governance, while other mayors who sent video messages included Felipe Antonio B. Remollo of Dumaguete City, Rommel C. Arnado of Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte, and Maria Josefina Tanya Belmonte-Alimurong of Quezon City.

The Isabela City People’s Council, represented by Pastor Ronald Paulino, also expressed its support for the program, describing it as a testament to the city’s readiness to take on the challenge of good governance.

Director Noemi B. Edaga of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-9 lauded Isabela City’s communication strategies, which earned the city a hall of fame award at the Regional Communicators Awards in Zamboanga Peninsula and BASULTA for three consecutive years from 2021 to 2023.

“We put a premium on this achievement of Isabela City because efficient communication is effective in making citizens understand policies, directives, programs and projects in governance; promoting a sense of accountability,” Dir. Good Governance Isabela (Go-GO) is a component of the Local Government Unit’s Information Revolution (INFO REVO) Program, a comprehensive program that includes series of information dissemination activities on topics such as good governance, environmental stewardship, gender fairness, peace and conflict resolution, economic emancipation, youth empowerment, media literacy, and more.
