Isabela police starts checkpoint, gun ban for peaceful 2025 elections

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) — The Isabela Police Provincial Office (IPPO), in coordination with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), has officially launched the implementation of checkpoints and a gun ban as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and orderly election process.

The measures took effect on January 12, 2025, marking the start of the election period.

PNP Provincial Director Col. Lee Allen Bauding assured that the IPPO’s full force, along with its various units, is prepared to enforce the checkpoints and gun ban throughout the election period, which will last until June 11, 2025, covering both the National and Local elections.

Col. Bauding urged the public to refrain from carrying firearms unless they have a valid permit or are exempted by COMELEC regulations.

“Anyone found carrying firearms without proper authorization will face both criminal and administrative charges for violating the COMELEC gun ban during the election period,” Bauding warned.

On the first day of the checkpoint and gun ban implementation, police stations across the province set up checkpoints at strategic locations. These operations were conducted in collaboration with election officers in the cities and municipalities of Isabela.

Col. Bauding and Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Manuel Castillo personally supervised the initial enforcement of the gun ban and checkpoint operations to ensure compliance across the province. (OTB/MGE/PIA Isabela)
