Azel Nel Armamento of the Leyte National High School in Tacloban City, won the First Place in the High School Division of the preliminary round Philippine Leg of the IWPG 6th Loving Peace Art Competition.
This was recently announced by the International Women’s Peace Group Philippines. Armamento’s winning entry entitled “Supporting Friends in Times of War Through Compassionate Actions” is reflective of his clear grasp of the work for peace.
He wrote, “My artwork serves as a visual representation of the multifaceted approach to conveying a heart of peace to friends enduring the hardships of war.” It intricately captures the essence of active listening and validating their emotions, showcasing the importance of providing unwavering emotional support during times of war.
Through his artwork, he emphasized the nurturing of self-care practices, the sharing of stories that inspire hope and resilience, and the expression of love and care through gestures of kindness and compassion.
The artwork also highlights the significance of sending thoughtful messages, organizing virtual gatherings for communal support, encouraging the adoption of positive coping mechanisms, and maintaining connections to foster a sense of belonging and solidarity.
Each element intricately woven into the artwork signifies the depth of empathy, understanding, and resilience required to offer solace and support to friends navigating the challenges of war, underscoring the power of human connection and compassion in promoting peace and healing in the face of adversity.
In the elementary division, the first place winner in the preliminary round of the 6th International Loving Peace Art Competition is Eunice Tubaña from San Nicolas School, Hagonoy West District, Bulacan.
Her winning entry “The Power of Friendship That Creates Peace” highlights how friendship connects everyone in the world, build trust and grow with love to attain peace.
The other winners in the high school level are James Nico Barbas from St. Francis National High School, Bataan, who captured second place and Charice Peni from Canubing National High School, Oriental Mindoro, who garnered the third place.
On the other hand, in the elementary level, Robi Daniel Ortega from Ramon Magsaysay Elementary School, Quezon City, won the second place while Chloe Fabriele Cabuguas from Perrelos Elementary School, Carcar City, Cebu, and Patrice Elizabeth Culminas from Ibalon Central School, Legazpi City, Albay, tied in the third place.
Both Armamento and Tubaña and the second and third place winners, will compete with other winners from all over the world in their final round of the International Women’s Peace Group 6th Loving Peace Art Competition with the theme “Peace, Let’s Be Friends.”
More than 40 young artists from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao in the Philippines, and beyond, including Bangladesh, Myanmar, Indonesia, and Pakistan, came together to participate in the competition.
Their artworks not only showcased diverse cultural perspectives but also emphasized the transformative power of art in promoting peace. The IWPG unites with women all around the world to fundamentally solve conflicts and violence on the earth.
Through this, IWPG protects precious lives from war and passes down peace as a legacy to the future generation. Its mission is “Building an Institution of Peace through Female Solidarity.”
Through the Loving Peace Art Competition, the IWPG believes that as part of creating the policy for the realization of world peace, we must lead the children and youth who are the future leaders, into a culture of peace.
