Japan pledges support to enhance Philippine Postal infrastructure

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — Japan has committed to advancing the infrastructure of the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) by sending a team of consultants to evaluate and improve mail and parcel distribution systems.

This initiative, announced by PHLPost Postmaster General Luis D. Carlos, involves collaboration with the Japan Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Japan Post, and Toshiba.

During the project briefing at the Central Mail Exchange Center in Pasay, Carlos expressed gratitude for Japan’s comprehensive support.

Japan State Minister for Foreign Affairs Tsuge Yoshifumi’s visit reinforced our needs, and he is dedicated to helping modernize PHLPost and exploring potential collaborations,” Carlos noted.

This partnership aims to integrate advanced digital strategies into PHLPost’s operations, which is crucial as the Philippines’ e-commerce sector continues to expand.

A recent study revealed that e-commerce sales in the country reached USD17 billion (P947,758 billion) in 2021, with projections indicating a growth of 17 percent by 2025, potentially reaching USD24 billion (P1,338 trillion).

The collaboration marks a significant step in strengthening the ties between Japan and the Philippines. Japan intends to enhance PHLPost’s capabilities, focusing on digital infrastructure to better serve the growing demands of the e-commerce marketplace.

As part of this initiative, Japan will assist PHLPost in streamlining mail processing operations and reviving banking services within postal facilities.

The cooperation is expected to restore reliability to postal services and position PHLPost effectively within the e-commerce sector. (JEG/PIA-NCR)
