BANGUED, Abra (PIA) — Five job seekers in Abra were hired-on-the-spot and 83 were near hires at the recently held World Café of Opportunities (WCO) at the Abra Sports Complex on August 28, 2024.
Jerome Pilor from the municipality of Danglas who was the first job seeker to be hired-on-the-spot is thankful for the opportunity to be employed.
“Itong job fair po ay napakaganda po para sa akin at sa mga katulad kong naghahanap ng on the spot na trabaho or kaya iyong mga nag-tambay na ng matagal,” he said.
A total of 543 registrants attended the job fair organized by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Public Employment Service Office (PESO), other government agencies, private companies, and technical-vocational institutions.
During the opening of the job fair, TESDA Provincial Director Belmar Angoling in his message read by TESD Specialist Emilyn Sencio encouraged the participants to take advantage of the more than 1,500 job vacancies and other services offered by partner agencies such as the PhilHealth, SSS, PSA, Pag-IBIG, Philippine Army, and PNP among others.
“This fair is a vital platform in connecting would be workers to employers in order to lessen if not to mitigate the number of unemployed in the province,” he stressed.
Aside from hiring companies and government offices, the Philippine Red Cross-Abra Chapter also provided free snacks for the participants through their ‘Hot Meals on Wheels’ food truck. Free blood typing was also offered to the job seekers.
The event was formally opened by DOLE-Abra Provincial Director Christopher Tugadi with PESO head Constancia Trongco, and Sencio.
The WCO is an annual activity to link technical vocational graduates and job seekers with employment and training opportunities. It is also part of the 30th TESDA Anniversary and National TechVoc Day celebration. (JJPM, PIA-CAR, Abra)
