Joint Task Group Baguio engages youth for peace and development

JTG Baguio joins activities spearheaded by peace advocate organizations in Baguio City

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Joint Task Group (JTG) Baguio continues to empower the youth so they can be productive members of the community and not be deceived by the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG).

JTG Baguio Civil Military Operations Officer 1Lt Trisha Ricardel said that they are conducting various activities for the youth in partnership with the different government agencies.

Ricardel said they conduct a series of information education campaigns, lectures, youth leadership summits, and symposiums among others to strengthen the youth and become their partners for peace and development. They also aim to instill a sense of responsibility, leadership, and patriotism among the youth.

She said that with those activities, they have seen and felt the urge of the young people to join activities for empowerment and community development.

“Nakikita namin ang adbokasiya nila para sa tunay na kaunlaran at tunay na pagbabago sa kabataan, na hindi solusyon ‘yung rebolusyon kundi ang tanging solusyon ay pagpapabuti sa kanilang mga sarili at maging parte sa solusyon ng problemang ating kinakaharap at hindi maging dagdag sa problema ng bayan,” Ricardel said.

She said that they also partner with various organizations such as the Youth for Peace, Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo, and sangguniang kabataan, among others, in the conduct of activities that will further empower the youth.

She emphasized the importance of engaging the youth in meaningful activities to prevent them from being lured into joining the CTG or getting involved in any illegal activities.

Ricardel said that with the recently signed memorandum of partnership agreement between the JTG Baguio, Police Regional Office Cordillera, and Department of Education Cordillera, they can widen their reach to the youth.

Under the agreement, youth information and peace education programs will be part of the curriculum of high school learners.

“Habang bata pa lang sila ay innate sa kanila kung ano ang tunay na patriotism, innate na po sa kanila ang tunay na kapayapaan. At an early age, bibigyan na po sila ng pag-aaral kung paano maging mapagmatyag, maging decisive para sa mga magiging desisyon nila sa kanilang buhay,” she said.

A technical working group is in the process of crafting guidelines for the implementation of the said agreement for the school calendar year 2024-2025.

The JTG Baguio is a joint effort between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police that aims to ensure and maintain peace and development in Metro Baguio. (DEG-PIA CAR)
