DAVAO CITY (PIA) –The three-day Kaan Dawet Food Fair held as part of the 38th Kadayawan Festival generated P1.9 million in combined sales from the 40 food sellers that joined the fair.
The Kaan Dawet Food Fair was strategically held at the newly cleared grounds at the back of Davao City’s Rizal Monument (the erstwhile City Engineers Office Building).
The event held August 18 to 20 coincided with the busy Kadayawan Festival weekend highlighted by Indak Indak sa Kadayawan (Street Dancing Competition), Pamulak sa Kadalanan (Floral Float Parade) and Hudyaka sa Kadayawan (drum/bugle and lyre school based competitions).
An estimated 50,000 people attended the busy Kadayawan Festival which boosted the crowds at the food fair where they were able to try the different dishes, meals, delicacies and beverages offered by the tenants.

Ledesma said that aside from being a go to place for people to fill their hungy stomach while enjoying the festivities, it also provides a platform for culinary entrepreneurs to promote their food products.
“Kaan Dawet aims to showcase local entrepreneurs and provide an avenue of exposure for aspiring student chefs who are the ambassadors of Davao cuisine,” said Davao Tourism Association (DATA) President Nicole Ledesma.
Traditionally organized by the association of restaurants in the city, this year’s Kaan Dawet is conducted by the Davao Tourism Association, a group of private tourism establishments in Davao City. Partnering with DATA is the City Government and the Department of Tourism XI.
Ledesma thanked the DATA members including the event’s working committee, the past and present officers for supporting their efforts in realizing the food fair.
“My immense appreciation for putting life to our vision of having a food bazaar where people can enjoy the Kadayawan festivities over good food, drinks and entertainment,” Ledesma said.
With the success of Kaan Dawet, DATA is planning hold a food fair in the upcoming Davao Pasko Fiesta at the same venue just in time when the whole City Hall grounds including Rizal and Quezon Parks are traditionally adorned with beautiful Christmas lights. (RGA/PIA Davao)
