MANILA, (PIA) — The price of rice in Metro Manila has decreased due to the successful implementation of the Kadiwa ng Pangulo “Rice-for-All” program, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA).
This Marcos administration initiative, which involves collaboration between the DA, local dealers, importers, and wholesalers, is supported by the Philippine National Police (PNP). The program aims to provide affordable rice at P40 per kilogram, with a limit of 25 kilograms per person.
As a result of the program, some retailers have reduced their prices to compete with the lower rates offered by rolling stores.
Rice sold at Kadiwa outlets is currently P3 to P5 cheaper than market prices, leading to increased sales at these rolling stores.
Recent operations saw the EDSA Balintawak Market sell a total of 110 sacks of rice, while five sacks were sold at the New Marulas Public Market, and 32 sacks at the Malabon Central Market, all at affordable prices.
The Kadiwa ng Pangulo “Rice-for-All” program resumed on December 27 and is expected to run until the New Year. It is part of broader efforts to address rising rice prices and ensure sufficient supply for the public.
Despite challenges, the DA and other agencies continue to work together to improve the distribution and accessibility of affordable rice for all citizens. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
