Kalibo Ati-atihan Sadsad winners to get higher cash prizes

KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) — Thirty-four contingents will compete for higher cash prizes for this year’s Kalibo Sadsad Ati-atihan Contest.

The Kalibo Sadsad Ati-atihan Contest, one of the must-watch events of this year’s Ati-Atihan festivities, is divided into four categories: Tribal Big, Tribal Small, Modern Tribal, and Balik Ati.

During a press conference, it was announced that Kalibo Mayor Juris Sucro, chairman of the Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival Board (KAFEB), has shared P1 million in prizes for the categories above, ensuring the giving of higher prizes to the winners.

It was revealed during the press conference that the grand winner of the Tribal Big category will get a whooping P1.1 million, higher than last year’s prize of one million.

Mayor Surco will share in P750,000 for this grand prize, while the LGU-Kalibo will allocate P350,000.

The second placer will get P400,000; of which the P250,000 will be from LGU-Kalibo and the P150,000 from Sucro.

Other winners of the Tribal Big category will bring home P170,000 for 3rd place; P70,000 – 4th place; P60,000 – 5th place; P50,000 – 6th place; and P40,000 – 7th place.

The grand champion for the Tribal Small category will receive P200,000 – P150,000 from LGU-Kalibo and P50,000 from Mayor Sucro; and the second placer will get P120,000. Third place will get P80,000, P60,000 – 4th place, P45,000 – 5th place, P40,000 – 6th place, P35,000 – 7th place; P30,000 – 8th place, and P25,000 for 9th place.

For the Modern Tribal Category, the first place will be given P165,000 (P140,000 from LGU; P25,000 from Sucro); the second placer will receive P100,000, while the 3rd place will get P70,000; P50,000 – 4th place, P45,000 – 5th place, P40,000 – 6th, P35,000 – 7th place, and 8th to 11th place will bring home P30,000 each.

Further, the cash prize of P145,000 will be given to the first place of Balik Ati Category, wherein the P120,000 will come from LGU and the P25,000 from Sucro. The second place will take home P90,000; the third placer will receive P70,000; P45,000 – 4th place; P40,000 – 5th place; P35,000 – for 6th place and P20,000 for 7th place.

Meanwhile, each category will have Special awards winners such as Best in Kalibo Ati-Atihan Beat and Sounds, Best in Kalibo Ati-Atihan Costume, Best in Kalibo Ati-Atihan Street Dancing, Best in Kalibo Ati-Atihan Head Dress, and Most Disciplined Kalibo Ati-Atihan Tribe/Group. Each will receive a P5,000 cash prize.

The 34 Tribes composed of 3,200 members will conquer the streets of Kalibo during the Bisperas it Kapiestahan ni Señor Sto. Niño de Kalibo on January 18, displaying their vibrant costumes and energetic performances along with the beat of drums and the sound of lyres. (AGP/SQP/PIA-Aklan)
