Kalinga District Jail upholds humane treatment of PDLs

TABUK CITY, Kalinga (PIA) – Officers of the Kalinga District Jail are committed to providing humane treatment to Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) persons at the facility.

In observance of the National Correctional Consciousness Week (NACOCOW) from Oct. 21 to 28, the PDLs participate in sports, competitions, cultural presentations, and other fun activities.

A total of 136 PDLs at the jail facility are also set to benefit from free legal consultation, medical and dental services, health lectures, gift-giving, among others.

“Very important daytuy nga event tapnu makita da met iti plight iti PDLs and dagiyay programs nga maitited kanyada,” Kalinga District Jail Acting Jail Warden JSINSP Noel G. Dulnuan said.

[The event is very important for the public to see the plight of the PDLs and the programs that are being provided to them.]

“Aside from dagiyay usual services nga itited iti jail, manaynayunan dagiyay programa para kanyada tapnu ma-uplift da,” he added.

[Aside from the usual services being provided by the jail facility, other programs are being added to uplift the PDL.]

The Kalinga District Jail holds activities promoting camaraderie, physical fitness, and cultural pride among PDLs, and provides counseling and livelihood skills trainings trainings.

They collaborate with government agencies and private partners to provide various services to the PDLs. Presidential Proclamation No. 551 series of 1995 declared every third week of October as National Correctional Consciousness Week to raise awareness about the rights, rehabilitation, and reintegration of PDLs and highlight the vital role of correctional facilities in fostering safer and more inclusive communities.

This year’s theme is ‘Makataong Pakikitungo, Matinong Pamumuno at Matatag na Prinsipyo Tungo sa Maunlad na Serbisyong Pampiitan.’ (JDP/IOS-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
