TABUK CITY, Kalinga (PIA) – Kalinga will champion its indigenous textiles and the craft of its local designers anew through the Laga Fashion Show 2025.
The annual runway event is one of the major highlights of the upcoming 30th Kalinga Founding Anniversary and 6th Bodong Festival. It will be held at the Capitol Park on February 11, 2025 at 5:00 in the afternoon.
Around 15 local designers will showcase their respective collections of modern-style clothing incorporating indigenous textiles.
The Laga Fashion Show is a platform to support the livelihood of Kalinga weavers, promote the products of local designers, and sustain an important part of Kalinga’s rich cultural heritage.
“We are inviting everyone to watch the Laga Fashion Show 2025 because this is in promotion of our Kalinga laga textiles. This is helping the economic activity of our indigenous women weavers from Kalinga. It’s the best venue to promote the different textiles,” said Laga Fashion Show committee chairperson Lorraine Ngao-i.
Ngao-i shared that the Bodong Festival will coincide with the visit of the National Commission of Culture and the Arts (NCCA) for its Saan Ka Lulugar (SKL) event.
The SKL is a flagship project of the NCCA’s National Committee on Architecture and Allied Arts for the celebration of the National Arts Month.
Visitors from the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) of the Department of Tourism together with members of the media are also set to visit the province in February for TPB’s Community-Based Tourism program.
“Sila ‘yung mga bibisita sa mga sites and attractions and maichachamba din sa [festival]. They also want to check the community or the villages,” Ngao-i said. (IOS-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
