KaSSSanga Program extends social security benefits to over 800 job-order workers in Camiguin

CAMIGUIN (PIA)–Taking a significant step towards enhancing the social security of about 800 job-order workers in three organizations in the province, the Social Security System (SSS) led the orientation and memorandum of agreement (MOA) signing for the KaSSSanga Program, November 8-9, here.

“Kung naa ang SSS, kami ang mahimo’g substitute income in case nga mawal-an sila og income due to sickness, retirement, or mamatay man gani ang miyembro [With SSS, we can be the substitute income in case they (job-order workers) lose income due to illness, retirement, or even when a member dies]. So overall, it’s a social security benefit for our job-order workers,” said Arnold Ferdinand Velasco, acting assistant branch head of the SSS CDO Branch.

The KaSSSanga Program, aptly named to signify partnership and support, is designed to encompass all job-order workers in national agencies. These workers often faced uncertainty as they lacked access to essential social security benefits.

Recognizing this gap, the SSS has extended its coverage to the job-order workers in the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Camiguin, Camiguin General Hospital (CGH), and Camiguin Polytechnic State College (CPSC), transforming them into KaSSSanga partners.

As the program unfolds, approximately 300 job-order workers and regular employees at DPWH Camiguin are poised to benefit. Regular employees, too, will have the option to continue paying as voluntary payors, thereby securing their own social security coverage.

The SSS, as a national institution, aims to leave no one behind, as its mandate dictates universal coverage. The program’s implementation demonstrates the SSS’s commitment to ensuring that every individual, regardless of employment status, can access social security benefits, Velasco added.

For national government agencies not yet participating in the KaSSSanga Program, SSS encourages them to take advantage of the opportunity to extend social security coverage to their job-order workers.

Interested parties can visit SSS offices in Camiguin or Cagayan de Oro City to learn more about the program and how it can benefit their workers. The SSS is keen to collaborate with more agencies to create a more secure future for job-order workers throughout the region. (RTP/PIA-10/Camiguin)

In line with its mission to promote social justice and protect members and their beneficiaries from events that cause them to lose income or become financially burdened, SSS held a signing ceremony for the KaSSSanga Program on November 8, 2023, with DPWH District Engineer Alberto Cainghog.
