Kennon Road remains closed to all motor vehicles, motorcycles – MBLISTTDA

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Metro BLISTT Development Authority reiterated its advisory that Kennon Road remains closed to all types of vehicles including motorcycles.

MBLISTTDA Chairperson and Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong issued the public advisory on October 18, 2024, before tropical cyclone Kristine hit Northern Luzon.

The total closure of the historic Kennon Road is to ensure the timely completion of projects that will allow access through Camp 2, Tuba, Benguet. A road slip along Camp 2 on September 7, 2024, has rendered Kennon Road impassable.

The MBLISTTDA said that the construction of a bypass road is ongoing while an acrow bridge construction started last Oct. 17. These are being fast-tracked for completion soonest to provide alternate route for motorists and even pedestrians passing through Kennon Road, which is the shortest route to Baguio City.

Acrow bridge is an economical and efficient permanent or temporary application for short-span bridge needs. It accordingly diverts “traffic around work zones and to enable access for heavy equipment, workers, and vehicles.”

The completion of the two projects are expected in the next two to three weeks depending on the weather conditions, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways-CAR.

The MBLISTTDA has also ordered the Police Regional Office-Cordillera to install a checkpoint in the area to apprehend violators particularly motorcycle drivers who insist on passing through the road.

Only pedestrians shall be allowed to pass through Camp 2 in Tuba, Benguet. UV Express vehicles shall be allowed to ferry passengers to Camp 2 for transfer from 7:30AM to 6:00PM, Monday to Sunday, subject to change in accordance with the DPWH-CAR efforts to fast track completion of the projects.

Meanwhile, the DPWH-CAR advises travelers to use alternate roads like the Marcos Highway, Asin-Nangalisan Road or the Naguilian Road.(JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)
