LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) — La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda appeals to residents and road users to extend their patience as road repairs at the Halsema Highway along the capital town continue.
At the same time, the mayor appeals to the Department of Public Works and Highways and the project contractors to fast track the construction works.
The roadworks from Kilometer 3 to Km. 5 of the national road in La Trinidad costing P127 million started in June last year and targeted to be completed in June this year. It continues to cause traffic congestion affecting local residents and tourists going to and from Baguio City and other travelers passing thru the municipality.
Salda wants the project to be fast tracked with the upcoming major events and activities in La Trinidad and Baguio City with thousands of locals and visitors are expected to attend.
The province of Benguet is set to host the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association Regional Meet in February where more than a thousand participants composed of athletes, coaches, trainers and school and local officials from across the region will troop to the capital town of La Trinidad for the week-long sports events and competitions.
Moreover, Baguio City will hold next month its annual Panagbenga festival, a crowd- drawer especially its grand street and floral float parades. Tourism spillover will impact on La Trinidad, especially with its Strawberry Farm, and other Benguet towns for their flower gardens, and other attractions.
La Trinidad will also stage its Strawberry Festival 2025 in March with various events at the municipality’s town proper.
Salda reiterated the advisory to motorists to use the alternate routes and possibly avoid the central business district of the municipality when traveling to and from Baguio City and northern Benguet. (JDP/RMC-PIA CAR)
