
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet(PIA)–The local government of La Trinidad honors the diligent farmers and fisherfolks for their hard work and dedication in the third Farmers and Fisherfolk Month celebration.
Mayor Romeo Salda and the municipal council led the opening program of the celebration, with the theme “Pagpupugay sa mga Masisipag na Magsasaka at Mangingisda na Katuwang Tungo sa Masaganang Bagong Pilipinas,” at the municipal gymnasium on Tuesday, May 7.
Department of Agriculture-Cordillera Regional Director Jennilyn Dawayan, in her message, recognizes and takes pride in the unfailing efforts of the farmers and fishers who continuously provide food to our tables.

“The DA-CAR takes pride and recognizes the efforts of our farmers and fishers in providing food to our tables. We laud our Cordillera farmers who contribute to more or less 80 percent of semi-temperate vegetables to the nation, share aromatic arabica coffee in our daily grinds, produce heirloom rice in our terraces and other rice in the lowland areas, produce fruits in season, and raise livestock and poultry in some areas. Happy Farmers and Fishers’ Month,” Dawayan said.
Department of Science and Technology Benguet Provincial Director Sheila Marie Claver, and Angie Fagutao of the Department of Tourism also expressed their support to the food producers, and shared programs of their respective agencies that can support to farmers and fisherfolk in the municipality.
Mario Baucas of the Office of the Provincial Governor and Kristine Molitas from the Office of the Congressman also shared their messages of support for the local farmers and fisherfolk.
One highlight of the celebration is the Agri-Trade Fair and Kadiwa ng Pangulo showcasing the locally produced vegetables of farmers and products such as crafts, food, and other items by the micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs and barangays of La Trinidad at the municipal hall grounds until May 24.
Other activities the local government lined up for the month-long celebration include the Coffee Festival on May 8 to 10; post-harvest training for fisherfolks on May 14; training on poultry dressing, meat cutting and meat processing on May 15 to 17; the techno forum and skills demo for cutflower and ornamental plant growers on May 15; an orientation and training on Good Agricultural Practices on May 16 to 17; Organic Farmer Practitioner Capability Building activity on May 20; the Rural Improvement Club, 4-Club and Urban Farmers Day on May 21 to 22, and the Organic Participatory Guarantee System – La Trinidad General Assembly on May 23.
There is also a month-long rabies vaccination of pets, deworming and vitamins, and livestock consultations.
