La Union celebrates freedom, unity in 126th PH Independence Day

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) — The La Union local government joined the nationwide commemoration of the 126th anniversary of Phillippine Independence on June 12.

The event was held with a flag-hoisting and wreath-laying ceremony at the provincial capitol grounds.

This year’s theme “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan” highlights the significance of freedom, future, and history in the country.

In her statement delivered by provincial executive assistant Eleazar Belgica, Gov. Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David urged the public to live the value of freedom through volunteerism, socialization, initiative, and active participation.

“To our dear constituents, we can reach the freedom if everyone of us will join and support our province’s ‘bayanihan’ initiative, move forward and take action for the betterment of our province and our nation,” Ortega-David said.

Moreover, she assured the public that the local government remains steadfast in advancing programs that promote genuine independence for the province’s constituents.

Meanwhile, Vice Gov. Mario Eduardo Ortega emphasized the need to assert their right to freedom as afforded to them by the constitution.

“As a bonafide citizen of this province, it is your responsibility to stand for your right, the right of freedom because it is one of the most luxurious commodities to sustain,” Ortega added.

The provincial government, as an advocate of nation-building, vows to prioritize the preservation and promotion of Filipino identity and heritage. (JCR/MJTAB/KJCR, PIA La Union)
