La Union gov’t enhances PWD skills to increase employability

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – The provincial government of La Union is equipping persons with disabilities (PWDs) with the tools they need to thrive.

Through a recent initiative by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office (PDAO), 30 PWDs from various towns received free livelihood skills training in mug and T-shirt silk printing.

The free skills training is part of the provincial government’s aim to increase PWDs’ living conditions in the areas of health, employment, education, and other basic necessities that will enable them to live comfortably and independently.

The training was also done to equip them with livelihood skills that will enable them to help themselves and their dependents.

Governor Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, in her message delivered by Executive Assistant Justo Orros, encouraged the public to embrace PWDs and give them equal opportunities to elevate their lives and their families.

“This training enables disabled individuals to develop skills in the field of silk-screen printing and to have a start-up kit for their association in addition to their introduction to information technology. This is not just a day of learning but a life-long learning,” Ortega-David said.

Meanwhile, Aldrin Ravi, a beneficiary from Luna town, said that having knowledge of photographic silkscreen printing coupled with skills in making fancy designs will have a great benefit for him.

“Hats off to those behind this initiative for providing genuine care to all vulnerable sectors through initiatives that will enable them to stand on their own feet,” Ravi said.

He also expressed readiness to build up on the training to produce printed shirts and mugs for commercial purposes.

Further, the provincial government ensures that PWDs will have regular access to social protection programs as well as respect, promote, and protect their dignity, rights, and welfare in the province. (AMB/KJCR/PIA La Union)
