SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – As the annual Simbang Gabi commenced on December 16, the La Union Police Provincial Office (LUPPO) has implemented a full alert status to ensure the safety of churchgoers and the general public.
“Our primary focus is to provide a secure environment for everyone attending Simbang Gabi,” said PMaj. Lawrence Ganuelas, Assistant Unit Chief of the Provincial Community Affairs and Development Unit (PCADU).
Ganuelas reiterated that police units were already instructed to beef up their presence in areas where people frequent, including malls.
He said, “We have deployed additional police personnel to churches and other public places to maintain visibility and respond to any potential threats.”
Ganuelas emphasized that while police officers are allowed to take Christmas breaks, they must remain on call and ready to report for duty if needed.
He added that LUPPO’s 20 police chiefs have been instructed to intensify security measures in their respective areas, particularly around churches and residential neighborhoods.
To further enhance public safety, Police Assistance Desks (PADs) have been set up near church entrances to provide immediate assistance in case of emergencies or incidents.
The LUPPO is urging the public to cooperate with law enforcement and report any suspicious activities or threats.
By working together, the La Union police and the residents can ensure a peaceful and joyful Christmas season. (AMB/KJCR/PIA La Union)
