La Union receives voting equipment to ensure smooth, secure 2025 elections

SAN FERNANDO CITY,  La Union (PIA) — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in La Union on April 26 received the automated voting equipment that will be used in the May 12  elections.

A total of 840 automated counting machines (ACMs), 117 contingency units, and consolidation and canvassing system (CCS) laptop computers were delivered to the F2 Logistics Warehouse in this city.

The equipment, transported from Biñan, Laguna, is essential for the smooth and secure conduct of the elections.

The ACMs will ensure accurate and timely vote counting, the contingency units will serve as backups in case of equipment failure, and the CCS laptops will facilitate secure data transmission and result consolidation.

Together, these devices play a critical role in maintaining the credibility of the election outcomes.

Inspection and security measures

Upon arrival, the machines and laptop computers were thoroughly inspected to confirm they were in sealed, tamper-free condition, following Comelec’s strict protocols.

This inspection, meticulously documented, forms part of Comelec’s broader initiative to ensure transparency and public accountability in the election process.

Lawyer Alipio Alonzo Castillo III, La Union’s provincial election officer, emphasized the importance of safeguarding the integrity of the machines.

“The integrity of these machines is paramount. They are essential to the efficiency and accuracy of the election results, and it is our responsibility to ensure they are free from tampering and ready for use on election day,” he said.

Ahead of the May 12 elections, a final testing and sealing (FTS) procedure will be conducted on May 6, ensuring that all equipment is fully functional and secure for use on election day.

The distribution of voting machines to La Union’s 19 towns will take place on April 28 and 29, with special attention given to remote areas like Santol to guarantee timely delivery and proper adjustments.

The Provincial Treasurer’s Office will also oversee the inspection of official ballots before they are dispatched to local hubs.

These steps reinforce Comelec’s multi-layered accountability system, aimed at securing an orderly and transparent election process.

Transparency and public trust

“Transparency is our shield against misinformation and distrust,” said Castillo.

He added, “By making our processes visible—from logistics to testing—we empower the public to believe in the integrity of our elections.”

Through these efforts, Comelec aims to foster an electoral process that is secure, efficient, and, most importantly, trustworthy.

The delivery of equipment marks just the beginning of a broader commitment to ensuring the credibility and peaceful conduct of the 2025 elections.

The Comelec encourages the public to stay vigilant and cooperative to ensure a smooth election process in La Union, reinforcing the shared commitment to democratic values and electoral integrity. (AMB/KJCR, PIA La Union)
