La Union to host North Luzon’s first confirmatory drug testing lab

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) — The Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (TRC) in La Union will soon open North Luzon’s first confirmatory drug testing laboratory, improving the center’s medical services and client care.

John Dominic Tomelden, TRC-La Union engineer, said the new facility will provide more accurate and advanced drug testing services.

“This has been funded by the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), and the expected contract award will be on March 2025,” Tomelden said.

The laboratory will double-check drug test results to make sure they are accurate and reliable.

This is important because it confirms if a person has really used illegal drugs after an initial screening test.

The project will support the government’s anti-drug efforts and strengthen the center’s current services.

TRC-La Union is also planning the Phase II expansion of its main building to add new health services.

“The Phase II of the said building will house the expanded services of the center — namely medical detoxification, nutrition clinic, therapeutic clinic, smoking cessation, and social hygiene,” Tomelden shared.

The center is also proposing an extension of its dormitory building to improve its facilities.

“An open ground floor was made to accommodate development within the center without sacrificing the comfort of clients and patients concerning parking,” Tomelden added.

Dr. Marvin Munar, TRC-La Union Chief of Hospital III, said these projects will ensure safety and quality care for staff and clients.

“Likened to the resilience of the many faces of our clients, we are going to build a functional and sustainable health facility guided by safety standards,” Munar said.

Through these projects, TRC-La Union aims to provide better services and create a positive impact on the community. (AMB/CCMT, PIA La Union)
