TUBOD, Lanao del Norte (PIA) — A formal proclamation and awarding ceremony has officially declared the province here a filariasis-free zone.

This milestone is part of the province’s observance of Malaria and Filariasis Awareness Month, a yearly event aimed at raising awareness and promoting public health initiatives to combat these infectious diseases.

“This is not only a triumph for public health but also a testament to the incredible work, dedication, and collective spirit of every individual involved in your journey,” Dr. Kim Patrick Tejano, Program Manager for Diseases for Elimination and Mosquito-borne Diseases, said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Aleck Taruc of the World Health Organization reaffirmed the organization’s ongoing support for Lanao del Norte and offered continued technical assistance and guidelines throughout their efforts.

Several individuals, agencies, and organizations that played a crucial role in this monumental achievement received plaques of appreciation.

Among those recognized were filariasis workers, local government units, rural health units, the Department of Education-Lanao del Norte, the Provincial Health Office, and Provincial Gov. Imelda “Angging” Quibranza-Dimaporo, who was lauded for her leadership and commitment to public health. These individuals and agencies were honored for their tireless efforts in the fight against filariasis and for their contributions to the province’s public health success.
