MARAWI CITY (PIA) – The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has called on Lanao del Sur to bolster its disaster resilience through increased investments in risk management, innovation, and education.
Speaking at the Lanao del Sur Disaster Resilience Summit on July 22-23, 2024, OCD-BARMM Regional Director Joel Mamon emphasized the critical role of these factors in empowering communities for effective response and recovery during emergencies.
Mamon also underscored the importance of learning from past disasters, stating, “Disaster incidents teach us the importance of preparedness and proactive planning.”
The OCD official further pointed out the significance of collective action, emphasizing that building a resilient community requires the united efforts of everyone.
He called for a whole-of-nation approach involving civil society, the private sector, and government agencies to work together and build a culture of preparedness and safety.
