Lanao del Sur welcomes new army brigade commander

MARAWI CITY (PIA) — Local chief executives in the province of Lanao del Sur and peace stakeholders gathered at Kampo Ranao, this city, on Wednesday, February 5, to welcome the new commander of the 103rd Infantry “Haribon” Brigade.

The Philippine Army has installed Col. Billy O Dela Rosa to take over the reins from MGen. Yegor Rey P. Barroquillo Jr, who assumed the new Chief of Staff of the Philippine Army (CSPA).

MGen. Gabriel C. Viray III, commander of the 1st Infantry Division, led the ceremony, underscoring the military’s unwavering commitment to its mission and values.

In his speech, Viray emphasized the importance of the time-honored tradition of the Change of Command ceremony, which signifies continuity, stability, and continued dedication to the mission at hand.

He commended Barroquillo for his exemplary track record and experience in military service and expressed confidence that Dela Rosa would continue to lead the 103rd Infantry Brigade with competence and integrity, ensuring the brigade remains a formidable force for peace and stability in the region.

“His familiarity with the operational landscape, his leadership acumen, and his extensive experience in counterterrorism and security operations will ensure the continued effectiveness of the 103rd Infantry Brigade,” he stated.

Viray also called on the officers, enlisted personnel, and civilian employees of the 103rd Infantry Brigade to unite and offer their full support to their new commander. He stressed the importance of maintaining discipline, commitment, and professionalism as the brigade plays a crucial role in national security.

For his part, Dela Rosa expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him and reiterated his dedication to the brigade’s mission. He committed to continuing the decisive military operations started by his predecessor, leveraging multi-disciplinary intelligence until all remaining threat groups are neutralized.
