Laoag City showcases creativity in 28th Pamulinawen Festival grand float parade

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte (PIA) – Laoag City’s streets came alive during the 28th Pamulinawen Festival’s grand float parade held recently, with government agencies, businesses, non-government organizations (NGOs), and academic institutions showcasing vibrant creativity.

The parade featured two categories: small floats and big floats, both highlighting artistic designs and cultural themes that celebrate the region’s heritage.

After an afternoon of competition, winners were announced.

Solsona town dominated the Small Float category, with Barangay Nalasin taking first place (P50,000), Barangay Capurictan securing second (P35,000), and Barangay Mariquet claiming third (P25,000).

In the Big Float Category, Barangay Naglicuan from Pasuquin town won 1st place with P100,000, Barangay Darasdas from Solsona town took 2nd place with P80,000, and Republic Gas Corporation (REGASCO) earned 3rd place with P50,000.

Oliver Valite, punong barangay of Naglicuan, expressed gratitude for their first-time win, sharing that their float concept, inspired by Laoag City’s kalesa and bell tower, represented the city’s cultural roots.

The float was made with pure indigenous materials that make the design unique, with its material sourcing featuring wood, stones, plants, and vegetables.

It has the traditional way that expounds the representation of Laoag City with its sunshine figure, the bell tower, and the kalesa.

“Our countless tiring nights paid off with a first-place win in the grand float parade.  Capitalizing on Laoag City’s iconic kalesa and bell tower, we developed a unique design that captured the essence of the city,” Valite said.

The Pamulinawen Festival continues to celebrate local talent and foster community spirit, bringing together various sectors to honor Laoag City’s lively traditions.

Locals and tourists alike are encouraged to participate in the festival’s events and activities, further promoting the city’s vibrant culture. (CCMT/AMB/MTDA, PIA Ilocos Norte)
