QUEZON CITY, (PIA) –The City Nutrition Committee (CNC) of Las Piñas gained ground in their efforts to improve the planning, implementation, and management of their local Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) implementation.
The NNC validation team were able to observe the following improvements and innovations:
The CNC had regular meetings to discuss the status of the nutrition program implementation and agree on ways to improve the way they do things to reach their targets.
The local nutrition committees at the city and barangay levels were strengthened and revitalized.
Innovative strategies were used in implementing the PPAN nutrition programs.
One of the innovations of the city government born during the pandemic is the Community Auxiliary Feeding Program using the Kusina ng Las Pinas Mobile Food Truck.
The program, spearheaded by the Office of the Mayor and Vice Mayor in collaboration with the City Nutrition Office, aims to provide hot meals to children, pregnant and lactating women, and other nutritionally vulnerable population groups to alleviate hunger.
The mobile food truck visits the barangays where around 600 individuals, preferably children, are given hot meals and bottled water.
The auxiliary feeding is managed by the Nutritionist-Dietitians and Barangay Nutrition Scholars to ensure that the meals served are nutritious and safe.
The City Nutrition Office (CNO) also partnered with the City Tourism/ Media Office and City Environment Natural Resources Office (CENRO) for the food tourism campaign dubbed as “Flavors of Las Pinas” to promote culinary food tourism.
Four (4) restaurants/ food establishments in the city were carefully selected by the CNO.
In 2022, the CNC was able to sustain the efficient implementation of their nutrition programs particularly Infant and Young Child Feeding, Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition, Nutrition in Emergencies, and Dietary Supplementation Program as well as nutrition-sensitive programs.
The city government continues to provide a separate budget for nutrition and formulates local ordinances in support of the PPAN implementation. (lp lgu/ nnc-ncr/pia-ncr)
