MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)–Seeing the bright future awaiting a tranquil place, the provincial government of Lanao del Sur highlighted the significance of maintaining peace in a society aiming to claim development.
In the launching of another peacebuilding initiative of their private partner, Vice Governor Mohamad Khalid Raki-in Adiong stressed that every positive thing follows when there would be peace and order in their entire province.
Drawing the historic 2017 warfare as an example, he stated that what happened in the country’s lone Islamic city could mirror what was supposed to be a progressive place if it had not been for the tragedy that devastated numerous properties, and caused the death of thousands of lives.
With this, Adiong heartened his constituents to be one, become peace advocates, and help in the betterment of their province
“Kapag magulo, doon nag-uumpisa lahat ng issue. Kailangan natin ng unity,” he said.
(If it is chaotic, all issues start there. We need to have unity.)
Notwithstanding their efforts, the provincial government has also expressed its gratitude to other parties and non-government organizations, especially Relief International, for being comrades in their pursuit of achieving lasting peace.
As Relief International unfolds its new undertaking called Women Engaged in Responsive Solutions to Conflicts and Violence in Mindanao (WE RESOLVE), Adiong was optimistic that their peace advocacy would be strengthened.
He acknowledged the group as one that is ready to help them change the image of his province which was once pictured as a chaotic place.
“Gift sa atin dito sa atin sa Lanao del Sur na mayroong Relief International na handang sumuporta sa atin dito,” said Adiong.
(Having Relief International that is ready to support us is a gift for us here in Lanao del Sur.) (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
