PASAY CITY — Senator Loren Legarda expressed her support for the Upper Chamber’s passage of Senate Bill No. 2797, declaring the province of Pampanga as the Culinary Capital of the Philippines.
Legarda, author of the measure, said it is high time to pay tribute to the province’s rich heritage and culinary artistry, recognizing its influence on Filipino cuisine in the country and on the global stage.
“As an author of this measure, I see it as a tribute to the rich heritage and exceptional culinary artistry that Pampanga has shared with our nation and the world. The Kapampangan commitment to food is an enduring legacy, passed down through generations,” the Senator said.
The iconic Filipino dishes of Pampanga include sisig, kare-kare, tibok-tibok and tocino. These Kapampangan cuisine, according to Legarda tells stories of innovation, resourcefulness, and love for tradition.
The Senator noted that the declaration is not meant to overshadow the culinary contributions of other provinces but aims to inspire a collective celebration of Filipino culinary heritage.
“This recognition does not diminish the contributions of other provinces and regions to our country’s diverse culinary heritage. Instead, it serves as an invitation for all of us to celebrate our shared heritage and honor the distinct flavors that each region offers,” the Senator stressed.
The four-term Senator also stated that the passage of the bill into law would play a significant role in economic development. “By passing this bill, we also unlock the potential of culinary tourism as a driver of economic growth. We give opportunities to local businesses, empower our communities, and inspire future generations to continue preserving and innovating our culinary traditions,” the Senator said.
As the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Culture and the Arts, the senator also reaffirmed her commitment to preserving and promoting the diverse cultural treasures of the country. (OSLL)
