Less is more in skin care, says health expert

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA)— A medical specialist urged the public to avoid intricate skincare routines to better take care of their skin.

In a recent “Kapihan sa Ilocos” episode, Dr. Jocelyn Guideng, a dermatologist from the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC), warned against blindly following social media skincare trends.

Dr. Guideng said using lesser skin products while prioritizing the most crucial, such as sunscreen, is important.

She also recommended the public not to use products with harsh chemicals, scented, and excessive oils.

“Overloading your skin isn’t necessary; a simple, clean routine is often best,” she said.

Guideng also suggested the public to wash their face at least twice a day and use lotion only at night to avoid fetching impurities and pollutants during the day.

“The foundation of good skin health is basic hygiene; many patients unnecessarily seek emergency care for skin problems that could be prevented with regular cleansing,” she said.

By streamlining their routines, individuals can maintain healthy, radiant skin without unnecessary complexity. (AMB/REB/PIA Region 1)
